For those seeking true mountain solitude, the UNESCO-protected Kogelberg Nature Reserve offers wild multi-day walks through the kingdom of fynbos along the Palmiet River. Farther inland, the rugged Cederberg Wilderness features multi-day routes past giant sandstone arches, ancient San rock art, and crystal-clear mountain streams, with overnight accommodations ranging from rustic stone huts to open-air wilderness camps under starlit skies.
